What will it do?
Will this pump create enough pressure to run a lawn sprinkler? Is this pump good enough for draining a flooded yard? Will this pump help me protect my basement? Is this pump appropriate for pool draining? The answer to all of these questions is YES! This is a powerful sump pump and almost every plumber and contractor have a story about how a Little Giant Pump saved them from some disaster. It will go through storms and hurricanes and still work well for years to come. But even if something happens you shouldn’t be worried because the unit has a warranty against defective materials and workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase by the user. It could have been longer but such is life.
What requires our attention here is the discharge port which is 1 ¼-inch. The device doesn’t come with a reducer for a garden hose so keep in mind that those wide pipes will shoot out a lot of water at once. You can use a simple bushing with male NPT 1 1/4″ X 3/4″ and female NPT and insert a 3/4″ all-thread bushing NPT. Then you can install an adaptor 3/4″ NPT Female X, a 3/4″ garden hose male thread, then add a 3/4″ garden hose. After that, you might be able to put it in a 5-gallon bucket of water with the discharge hose connected while it is plugged into an outlet. When the water level switches trips, it will run.
Sump pumps must be maintained, that’s why it is good to write down a checklist for quarterly and annual cleaning tasks. Typical recommendations suggest examining equipment every year. Pumps running frequently due to a higher water table, water drainage, or weather conditions have to be checked more frequently. Sump pumps, being mechanical devices, will fail eventually, which could lead to a flooded basement and costly repairs. Redundancy in the system (multiple/secondary pumps) can help to avoid problems when maintenance and repairs are needed on the primary system. All of this applies to the Little Giant 6-CIA.
